In 2018 a team of writers from across the education continuum developed the document “Optimizing Outcomes for Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing: Education Services Guidelines.” The Guidelines provide:

  • information as to necessary considerations and services
  • a tool to identify strengths and gaps in educational services and programs so a plan for improvement can be created,
  • a template for an improvement plan, and
  • a compilation of resources for implementation.

This session will explain this material. It will describe activities states, local school districts, and schools can take to implement the guidelines. It will demonstrate the new website that supports the Guidelines (www.deafedguidelines.org). It then will include a discussion period when attendees can develop their own plan to promote and implement the Guidelines in their classroom, school, district, or state.
